Beschreibung
Although it is frequently posited that career expectations and career-related attitudes are subject to change both during a person's career course and between different cohorts and that career expectations and attitudes are influenced by macro-economic variables, there is a lack of research combining these different determinants. Based on extant theories, this study explores the change of individuals' striving for career security and stability at the individual and cohort level as well as its relationship with country-specific unemployment rates and levels of income. Results suggest that the desire for career security and stability increases both during a person's career and when comparing different cohorts, and is also influenced by unemployment rate and income level as economic context factors. The paper mainly contributes to career research in two ways: First, it bridges the existing gap between micro and macro levels in career research. Second it approaches the methodological challenge of usually confounded cohort, age, and time effects by using an appropriate longitudinal research design.Zeitraum | 2 Juli 2015 → 4 Juli 2015 |
