BeschreibungThis paper suggests a conceptual framework to analyze managerialism and its effects. First, we conceptualize the impact of managerialism on non-profit organizations (NPOs) and develop different dimensions of managerialism. We present notions of managerialism from prior research and use elements of new institutionalism and social systems theory to develop a framework of managerialism as well as to capture possible dimensions. Second, we introduce societal functions of non-profit organizations as the main field of impact of managerialism. We suggest a triangle of three main functions, namely service, advocacy, and community building, referring to NPOs contributions to societal subsystems. We suppose that the diffusion of managerialism affects accomplishment of societal functions in various ways.
