Beschreibung
The research study includes a literature review of sourcing and modal choice and combination factors within the scope of supply chain (SC) disruptions while addressing the emerging importance of digital transformation by the companies and industries. It supplements the published outcomes based on the secondary data with the case studies and their respective empirical primary data that lead implications to the intermodal transport management at local, regional and global level. The study outcomes shall serve as a valuable input for future qualitative and quantitative research in the domain of modal choice framed by SC disruptions and digital transformation in the field of intermodal transport and maritime shipping. The authors interlink modal choice approaches in SC disruption times affecting the decision-making process and readiness for digital transformation by different market actors. The authors identify the ways of response to non-precedential COVID-19 pandemic affecting modal choice decision making, facilitated with an ongoing digital transformation of businesses. Under normal business conditions, total cost optimisation is the key in the decision-making process of modal choice in global supply chains (GSCs). However, unprecedented and volatile disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic make manufacturers and suppliers act quickly and reorganise their shipments in cooperation with logistics providers such as multimodal transport operators (MTOs) and unimodal carriers.Zeitraum | 25 Nov. 2021 → 27 Nov. 2021 |
