    Beschreibung

We build on the important work of Berrone et al. (2012) who propose a long-needed measurement scale for socioemotional wealth (SEW) in family firms. We take the next step by applying rigorous scale validation procedures for the as yet untested FIBER scale using 356 respondents. Based on two studies in similar contexts (Austria and Germany), we propose the REI scale, a parsimonious version of FIBER with nine items, that works independently of typical heterogeneous characteristics of family firm samples (e.g., generational stage, age, size). Additionally, we test for convergent validity by correlating the respective FIBER/REI dimensions with common proxies.
