Based on the Directive 2006/49/EG of the European Parliament and the European Council, banks are required to provide a decent assessment of their clients risks when granting a loan to a company. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) especially, this detailed information requirement could mean an additional burden which they might not be able to stand up to without help from outside. This is the starting situation for the EOR service. The EOR service offers a tool for a self-evaluation for SMEs and for the research about SMEs and their regional surroundings and therefore offers opportunities for a European integration in respect of an ecological evaluation of a company.
The directive asks banks for a decent assessment of their clients risks when granting a loan to a company. Due to the shortage of manpower and knowledge, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular do not have the possibility to fulfil this additional (information) demand that is now arising from banks. Without support, it is expected that either the loans will get more expensive for SMEs or that bank lending will be denied to them.
