Beschreibung

Assessing a development you are witness of, always is difficult to judge. Today’s scientists defined a new age in earth history: the Anthropocene, characterized by the explosion of population growth, the transformation of our planet into a fabric for human demands and the disappearance of biodiversity. New technologies, among them digital- and bio- technologies promise unknown dimensions of quality, which will change our live styles and the planet. So far, changes have been due to industrial, linear organized technologies, which we could somehow grasp by our senses or at least by instruments enlarging our sensual amplitude. The new technologies are net- based, causing unpredictable turbulences in social and natural systems by arbitrary, only minimal influences (shit storms in face book; invasions of small insects; effects of small plastic particles; electric smog; etc.). Obviously, we have just left the mechanical view on the world, sailing to dimensions of new uncertainty.
Compared with human lifetime, the start of the Anthropocene is a long-term process, not one single turning point. Sustainability became a concept of hope to reach a balance between nature and society. Balance implies mechanical thinking. However, is sustainability really a concept for the new age? Why it obviously did not work during the last decades?
The presentation will focus on issues, which are responsible that the concept missed it targets. The main point to is, that sustainability was integrated in business and consumption as usual.
