Finance is a vital part of everybody’s life but dealing with financial issues in a competent way. requires a certain level of financial literacy that many people lack. Consequently, fostering financial education is high on the policy agenda of many countries, some of which have developed national strategies for financial education. Financial education at all levels of schooling are always at the heart of these strategies. However, there is little empirical evidence on the didactic adequacy and effectiveness of financial education initiatives for very diverse student populations at schools. Without comprehensive reforms of curricula and/or further education of teachers some initiatives might be difficult to implement at schools. Considering these restrictions, the concept of training financial educations coaches at Vienna University of Economics and Business has been developed. This paper analyses the concept and the theoretical model it is based on. It also discusses first evaluation results on the didactic adequacy and the effectiveness of the program, in particular its impact on academic teaching, research of financial education as well as a university’s third mission.
