The objective of the REDUCE project is to identify available clean technologies in energy-intensive industries (e.g. manufacturing of metal and mineral, chemical or paper products), and to pinpoint the most conducive at reducing energy consumption. To realize this, REDUCE will collect data on established and emerging technology alternatives and introduce them in a novel, technology-specific global energy Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) model. The refined model will allow to track direct and indirect energy use changes in the event of technology introductions and phase outs. The model will be tested with an EU-level case study within a Multi-Regional Impact Assessment (MRIA) framework, providing empirical data for energy savings targets.
