Environmental Impacts of the Aquaculture Industry: A Global, Trade-Linked Analysis

We analyze aquaculture feed inputs and develop the most comprehensive framework to date of physical biomass flows from both terrestrial and aquatic sources into the global aquaculture production. By tracing aquaculture supply chains from final consumption via production back to the feed’s source regions, we identify consumption- and import-based responsibilities for mitigating environmental pressures embodied in farmed fish through its feed consumption.
