Future-Proof Energy Technologies: Assessing Supply Chain Vulnerability to Climate Risks

The FUTUREPROOF project identifies the most climate-resilient renewable energy technologies. We break down the EU energy sector into a large number of key renewable energy technologies and integrate them into a novel, technology-specific global energy Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) model. We supplement our model with climate impact and risk data from the latest reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Applying the model within Vulnerability Assessment Framework (VAF) combined with Multi-Regional Impact Assessment (MRIA) allows us to determine the technologies least vulnerable to climate change risks. The new insights can guide public and private investment decisions and direct resources towards technologies that maximize energy system resilience.
