Monitoring Civil Society in CEE: Contributions from a Historical Perspective

This project is a collaboration with the Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET) at university of Vienna. WU's Institute of Nonprofit Management and Governance is an institutional partner in this FWF funded research endeavour on the transformations in Central and Eastern Europe. RECET hosts various comparative studies of social, economic, and cultural transformations in the wake of deep historical caesuras at different times and in different parts of the world. WU's Institute of Nonprofit Management and Governance particularly contributes to investigating the role of nonprofits, civil society, volunteerism and social movements to these transformations. Accordingly, we will contribute to the second wave of our Civil Society Monitoring in CEE, which has been just launched by our Social Entrepreneurship Center, from a historical perspective, adding these insights to better understand and interpret recent development in 13 CEE countries, from Ukraine to Croatia, from Poland to Albania.
