Abstract

In our today's economic life, logistics plays a major role. But strictly speaking, logistics was a typical military term for hundreds of years. Since the 50ies of the last century it has become a more and more economic term. Nowadays only a few are beware of that fact. Therefore it is rather interesting, how currently implemented military logistic systems are organized and working, especially after the ending of the cold war and under the new threatening scenarios since 9/11. In this paper the emphasis lies upon the logistic system of the Austrian Army, whereas comparisons with the Swiss Army and the NATO are made. These organizations are chosen, because Switzerland is also a small and neutral country and inland as well and Austria is a member of the NATO-PfP. Not only comparisons with other logistic systems are made, but also the efficiency of the logistic system of the Austrian Army itself is investigated. Because of the increasing number of international missions it is justified to ask, if the currently implemented logistic system is sufficient enough to fulfill these requirements. This is done by the deployment of a part of the Austrian Air Defense Forces for an exercise to the shooting range in Ustka/Poland in September 2003.(author's abstract)
