Abstract

The diploma thesis in hand deals with the use of the internet in the traditional airfreight industry. In the course of this diploma thesis all possible internet applications for the airfreight forwarders are introduced. Furthermore, the benefit in using these applications is presented. After this the results of the empirical survey are delineated and analysed. About 60 percent of the Austrian airfreight forwarders have taken part in the survey. The survey explains that the enterprises know the advantage of the internet and the employees have usually free internet access and an e-mail account. However only 40 % of the companies have created a connection to an information and communication service rovider, eg. Traxon or GF-X. Therefore the problem of lack of information throughout the involved parties of the traditional airfreight chain is not solved. Nevertheless, most enterprises transfer documents electronically throughout their network of partners and are therefore able to work more efficiently. However, the critical factors to compete successful against the integrators are the software in use, the online-services as well as the technical and organizational ability of the employees.
