    Abstract

The history of the economic discipline of commodity science dating back is long-time, as description of commodities seemed to be useful for trading already since the medieval ages. Many European Economic Universities throughout Europe disposed of institutes of technology and commodity science from their very beginning. Today commodity science is neglected by economic education more and more in these countries or has even been abolished. This contribution intends to prove that a prolongation and even revival of this science would be useful in order to meet requirements of EU regulatory policy on economics and sustainability. There is a need to comply to modern economic reality of a globalised exchange of materials and goods attaining a multitude and diversification, which mankind had never experienced before.
