Abstract

This papre suggests that short biographies are 'pure hybrid' rather than (mainly) 'narrative' text types, as supported by their consistent blending of communicative functions, perceptionsof time (spatial metaphors, horizontal timeline) that affect the textual structure, and unusual combinations of tenses that surprise the reader with unexpected effects.
