Abstract
The paper illustrates the enormous regional variation in Spanish economic terminology, which arises from the fact that English models are often adapted independently in different Spanish-speaking countries. The fate of 19th century adaptations of the concept 'purchasing power' suggests that this terminological variability is not going to disappear soon.
