N2 - Focusses attention on the structure, mechanism and evolution of spatial labour markets in various industrialised countries. The cross-national comparison of the operation of regional and urban labour markets presented here is based on a systematically designed survey questionnaire to guarantee a meaningful review of developments, problems and policy issues from different countries. The aim has been to have a representation of both small and large countries, of planned and free market economies, of countries with a favourable and unfavourable employment situation and of stagnating and growing economies. This has yielded the selection of the following countries: Australia, Austria, Canada, France, West Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA and Yugoslavia. -from Editors
