Abstract

Technology forecasting helps firms avoid the discontinuity of the corporate innovation cycle and overcome technology performance gaps to maintain long-term competitive advantages both in and outside of Latin America. Yet an important question remains unanswered in the literature: how do organizations develop future technology forecasting and to what extent is it intertwined with corporate strategy? We seek to answer this question based on data collected from semi-structured interviews with executives from major technology firms in Brazil and via an online survey, hereby utilizing a previously developed analytical framework based on complexity, periodicity, reliability and cost of technology forecasting (anonymized for review). Our work sheds light on the role of technology forecasting in resource orchestration, thereby contributing to theory on the resource-based view of the firm.
