Abstract
This article presents the results of a cluster analysis of the Austrian economy. Porter's concept of the international competitiveness of nations is discussed from a theoretical point of view and tested empirically for Austria. An application of Porter's methodology involves several problems (data, measurement, service industries) in the Austrian context. This leads us to propose extensions and modifications for future research.
