Abstract
The paper analyses the Euro as legal tender from an Austrian perspective. For this purpose, the article focuses on the Default of Payment Act 2013, which led to a major reform of the provisions and monetary depts in Austrian Civil Law. The paper deals with the legal framework for payments in cash (banknotes and coins) as well as for equivalents (e.g. bank transfer or credit cards). At the end, the paper briefly discusses the future of cash from an Austrian perspective.
