Abstract
This contribution attempts to apply the EU NIS Directive (EU 2016/1148) and the corresponding EU cyber-security strategy to the smart city. It will present the NIS framework and show in how far it aids in meeting its cyber-security challenges – but also where its limits lie for it has to be supplemented by national or even sectorial, frameworks. The paper also provides concrete suggestions for developing the directive
