Using Dynamic Adaptive Cases to Bring Practical Experience into the Classrooom

Abstract

This paper is based on the author's teaching experience in the field of international logistics and supply chain management, where two types of dynamic adaptive cases have been successful. The first type consists of decision-making scenarios in the field of road haulage, inland-navigation and/or logistics service provision based on effective cost calculation. The second are assessments of country environments or customs treatment and packaging requirements of commodities being exported or imported in the context of the European Community. In both cases, publicly available resources are employed to create always new problem statements with current information for the students without imposing excessive adaption efforts on the teacher. Furthermore, the case designs prevent cheating to a high extent at the same time. The paper illustrates concrete examples and outlines key components of scenario design and their success factors.
