Abstract
Much of the force of the development in geography during the last decades related to methodology and improvement of the approaches to traditional geographical questions. Although regions have traditionally been a central concern in geographical studies, geographers have been rather hesitant to solve the different regionalization problems. This paper discusses the question why regionalization is so important for geographical research and spatial planning, outlines some aspects of the methodological progress in the field of regionalization and regional typification and provides general concepts for solving specific homogeneous and functional problems.-from English summary
