Description
Business families are of enormous importance for the development of any economy as only functioning business families secure the prospering and the survival of family businesses. While family business research has mainly focused on the business unit so far, the business family has received less attention. We address this research gap by developing a taxonomy that captures the heterogeneity of business families along three dimensions: the involvement in the business family, the essence of business families and the identity of business families. From a methodical point of view, this study starts with a state-of-the-art literature review, followed by focus-groups with business families and a large-scale quantitative survey. Based on the quantitative data, the taxonomy of businesses families will be related to indicators of family and business success in order to explore which specific types of business families are the most successful ones and which practices characterize those families. The study opens up possibilities for business families to locate and compare themselves with different types of business families which enables them to reflect on possibilities for developing their functionality.Period | 15 Sept 2016 → 17 Sept 2016 |
