Dismantling Barriers to Access: Understanding Information Precarity, Vulnerability, and Political Engagement in the Austrian Context

Activity: Talk or presentationScience to science

Description

The aim of the IDEAL: Inclusive Democratic Engagement and Language Technologies in Europe project is to foster a European public space for citizen deliberation that transcends linguistic barriers, supporting deliberation on key European issues by traditionally vulnerable and/or marginalised groups in society through the development of a unique participatory methodology and AI tools, rigorously tested in experimental field settings based in three pilot countries. In this paper, we attempt to examine the exclusionary effects that language and access to information have on marginalised groups, presenting the preliminary results of a series of workshops and focus groups conducted by researchers from the WU aimed at developing an evidence-driven base for technological development
