Description

High temperatures are associated with lower aggregate national output. One explanation put forward is heat stress on workers and temperature-related increases in mortality. In this paper, we focus on the understanding of the effect of high temperatures on occupational accidents in the construction sector. We use several microdata sets on construction sites, occupational accidents and weather in Austria to estimate the causal effect of high temperature on accidents. For identification, we also use institutional changes of laws concerning bad weather in the construction sector.
