The Effects of Education and Training on Cultural Intelligence:
Research Directions & Developments

In the last five years, Cultural Intelligence (also known as CQ) gained increased interest among management researchers. Recent developments contributed to both theoretical and empirical developments in this area. Our PDW will build on these recent developments and focus on an area that has not yet been systematically examined: the effects of various educational interventions, such as short training courses and university courses on students CQ. If we accept that some of the CQ dimensions are, at least partially, malleable by learning and experience, an important question to pose is whether academic courses can affect students CQ and in what way. In the first part of the Workshop, we will introduce a new international project (currently involving close to ten countries) that aims at systematically answering the above question and describe its design and methodology. In the second part, we will ask audience members to share their experience and perspectives on the research topic. We will conclude by inviting interested new members to join the CQ Research Consortium and with charting research plans for the near future.
