The Ever Given Suez canal incident – A wakeup call for global supply chain re-design?

Activity: Talk or presentationScience to professionals/public

Description

The recent Ever Given Suez canal incident highlights vulnerabilities all companies face operating global supply chains. As if these many challenges coming along with the present pandemic situation were not enough, this temporary blockage of the Suez canal should be considered as a wake-up call to re-think global supply chains. Several questions have to be raised in the aftermath of this event : Is it still reasonable to ship so much by sea from Asia to Europe when other alternatives become increasingly relevant? Given increasing on-demand fast delivery and raising sustainability concerns, can we even accept goods being produced overseas? Hans-Joachim Schramm will share his insights into global transportation with us in this webinar aiming at interactive discussion about consequences and potential actions towards a re-design of global supply chains.
