Description

The present paper describes part of an ongoing larger project that aims at identifying currently held work-related stereotypes about gender and age and the use of accordingly biased terms in job advertisements in the German language area. In the focal paper, we take a first step by exploratively identifying the current state of work-related age stereotypes and exploring which attributes and behaviours are viewed as particularly desirable in the work context. In this paper, we use a sample of students as representatives of a younger age group who will soon be looking for jobs and will then self-select into, or out of, job application processes, with stereotypes and the language used in job ads playing an important role.
