Short biography

Burcak Bas is Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Institute for Marketing & Consumer Research at WU.

She received her PhD cum laude in Business Administration and Management (with specialization in marketing) from Bocconi University in 2022.

Broadly interested in consumer psychology, and judgment and decision-making, Burcak aims in her research to address questions that contribute to consumer well-being and societal welfare. For instance, when and why are consumers averse to (or appreciative of) experiments conducted on human beings? How can we tackle overhead aversion in charitable giving? When and why are people averse to uncertainty, even when at times it is irrational to be so? 

Burcak has presented her research at various academic conferences (e.g., ACR, SCP, SJDM), and received for her research several awards such as the John A. Howard/ AMA Doctoral Dissertation Award (Honorable Mention), the Beattie Award (Winner), BESH Doctoral Research Award for Well-Being (Co-Winner), and the ACR-Sheth Foundation Dissertation Award (Honorable Mention).
