Short biography

Academic Background

Mihaela Dimitrova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Business and Trade at WU Vienna. Before her current role, she was an Assistant Professor of Management at Oakland University in the USA. She earned her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA. In 2025, Mihaela will be on an extended research leave as a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota, USA, and IESE Business School, Spain.

Research Interests

Mihaela's research lies at the intersection of organizational behavior and international management, with a particular focus on global work experiences. Her work explores the management of global employees, cross-cultural management, and the proactive behaviors that enable employees to thrive in international environments. She regularly contributes to leading academic journals such as the Journal of Organizational BehaviorJournal of International Business StudiesJournal of World BusinessHuman Relations, and Journal of International Management, among others. Her research has been recognized with several awards from the Academy of Management, such as the Best Paper in OB/ HRM/ OT Award from the International Management Division and the Best International Paper Award from the Careers Division. Most recently, she received the 2024 International HRM Scholarly Research Award from the Academy of Management for the most significant article published in the domain of international HRM. Mihaela serves as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Global Mobility and is on the editorial review boards of Personnel Psychology and the Journal of Organizational Behavior.

Teaching and Governance

At WU Vienna, Mihaela teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses within the CEMS Master, ExInt Master, and IB SBWL programs. Her courses cover topics such as international human resource management, global careers, and global human capital analytics. In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Mihaela is actively involved in university governance as a member of WU’s Senate and the university’s Research Committee. She has previously served on the Personnel Development Committee.
