The study aimed at researching the level of economic knowledge of pupils in their 8th year of schooling. The study included both an oral survey to explore the students' individual ideas about business and a standardized written test to objectively measure the level of economic knowledge of students towards the end of compulsory schooling. For this purpose, a test instrument in multiple-choice format was developed, which primarily covers the basics of the market economy system, central economic concepts such as economic growth, purchasing power or supply and demand, as well as the different roles of households, companies and the state.
