Project Details

Description

The project aims to analyze the educational interruptions of asylum-seeking youth in Austria, particularly those aged 15 to 18, and to examine their impacts on educational and employment biographies. These youths often face systematic barriers to accessing secondary schools, leading to gaps in their educational pathways that negatively affect their professional and social prospects. The project compares three scenarios: an unemployment scenario, a reduced employment scenario with low income, and an ideal scenario in which the youths can attend a secondary school.
Through a structured literature review and interviews with experts, a detailed analysis of the costs and consequences of these educational interruptions for the affected individuals and society is conducted. The research investigates the effects on labor market integration, income, socio-economic status, as well as health and social integration. The results include a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the consequences of educational interruptions, along with evidence-based recommendations for supporting the youths in their educational journeys.
