Wage dispersion in and between nonprofit organisations. A quantitative analysis for Austria.

    Project Details

Although about a third of all work places in the service sector in Austria are in the nonprofit sector, little is known about wages in that sector. My research is concerned with a better understanding of determinants of the wage structure within and between nonprofit organisations. One the one hand I will analyse wage differentials between different nonprofit organisations and between nonprofit, forprofit and public organisations. On the other hand I will compare the intra-organisational wage differentials of NPOs with forprofit ones. This differential reflects the differences in income between different occupational groups within one organisation. For the United States, for example, Leete (2000) found a more compressed intra-organisational wage dispersion for NPOs than for forprofit organisations. I will examine matched employer-employee data of Austrian NPOs with at least one paid employee.
