Project Details
Description
This projects investigates the extent and evolution of relative and absolute social mobility as well as equality of opportunity in Austria based on a novel administrative data set. In addition, the role of early childhood education, vocational training and higher education as pathways to upward mobility is evaluated. While much of recent research studied cross-sectional inequality in Austria, this is the first project that takes a comprehensive look at the Austrian population from intra- and intergenerational perspectives. The project provides a descriptive investigation of absolute and relative mobility as well as equality of opportunity at different geographical scales speaking especially to an emerging international literature. Finally, it enables key insights for designing an educational system that provides pathways to upward mobility in Austria.
