Description
Inter-generational occupational mobility is a key ingredient for the long-run evolution of inequality. Using unique microdata from the Eurosystem Household Finance and Consumption (HFCS) for Austria, we study second-generational occupational mobility. Additionally to the commonly known results in the literature between parents and their children, we find that occupational persistence is strong also across three generations. Furthermore, we find a gendered asymmetry in our second-generational results, which amplifies findings for the first-generational descendant case.
