In Austria, as in many other high-income countries, the average diet does not correspond to the food-based dietay guidelines (Food Pyramid). This is due to high-calorie diets with a large share of highly processed and animal-based foods. These diets not only promote a variety of diseases, but they are also resource intensive and contribute to planetary boundary transgression.
A sustainable and healthy diet considers the environmental consequences of food production, and global environmental goals such as the Paris Agreement. However, like in many countries, Austrian dietary recommendations ("Food pyramid") only focus on human health. This project investigates which adjustments are needed for the Austrian food-based dietary recommendations to not only meet health, but also environment criteria.
