Description
The project POLIS was developed based on the results of the project PARSIFAL ¿Participatory Security Research within Academic Education and Training in Austria¿. POLIS picks up the different needs related to seven selected Hot Spots which became visible in the PARSIFAL project, and continues research on this critical infrastructure concerning specific interests. Based on the request of the Directorate General of Public Security (Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs) POLIS develoos clear solution- and competence strategies for typical situations on the seven selected Hot Spots in Austrian towns. POLIS has a particular focus on the paradigm shift in police work and will offer a holistic approach to police activities (Community Policing). POLIS will actively involve people from different professional backgrounds in the research process and develop customized solution- and competence strategies for specific places.
Another important aspect of the project is the transfer of knowledge about subjective security into the basic police training. While the project PARSIFAL focussed on the executive education, POLIS will close an institutional gap in police training and will stimulate from the beginning a reflexive approach of future police staff about their role and the diversity of public areas. Training material, which was developed in PARSIFAL, will be implemented systematically and further developed in the basic police training.
