The overall goal of the SIM-SIC! project lies in the minimization of risks in and for the
intermodal transportation system and the corresponding supply chains. Because of its
special nature the intermodal transportation system is vulnerable to disruptions of all kinds
(natural, human, political, technical risks etc). Thus this study analyses and classifies the
potential risks of each mode of carriage (road-, rail-, and water borne). Also coping and
mitigation strategies and measures to raise the ability of the system to recover from shocks
(resilience of the system) will be developed. The results of this study should allow for a
sounder basis of risk-free functioning intermodal channels of supply within Austria.
