    Description

The project is building upon previous research in order to show general work-family patterns in Europe as well as attitudes and values related to them. Therefore, we rely on our representative sample survey made in the EU project ¿Households, Work and flexibility¿ (2000-2003) funded under the Fifth Framework Programme. The countries covered are the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria. They represent a range of experiences of flexibilisation and policy initiatives with regard to home-work balances. The strategies in practice as well as cultures of work and care vary significantly between different countries as do the policy context, so that we might expect this to have very different implications in different European contexts. Quantitative comparative analysis enables us to investigate and specify our typologies for the above mentioned countries which have been developed until now only in theory. We hereby attempt an empirical exemplification by our own survey.
