Real Estate in Vienna as reflected in the "Häuser-Kataster" publications

Project Details

Description

The so-called "Häuser-Kataster" (House Registers) are a central source for the history of real estate ownership in Vienna. The first such registers were collected for postal purposes in the seventeenth century. With the several extensions of the City of Vienna in the nineteenth century they became bigger and bigger. In collabation with Wienbibliothek im Rathaus (the main research library for the history of Vienna), this project intends to convert the existing scans of the house registers into datasheets for statistical processing. We start with the latest available house register, edited by J. Wolfgang Salzberg between 1927 and 1929.
