Abstract
With the transformation of industrial societies, gender relations
have started to change, and organisations are increasingly under
pressure to make progress on equality. So the question arises of
whether and to what extent they will continue to remain places
which (re-)produce traditional gender norms and structures or
whether they will contribute to the transformation of the ‘
gender cage’. This book provides current research results and neo-institutionalist
approaches in order to explain the reconfiguration of gender distinctions in organisations. In the first part, main neo-institutionalist concepts (such as institution, organisational fields, isomorphism, decoupling) are determined from a gender perspective. The second part focuses on dealing with social
equality expectations in for-profit and non-profit organisations
and reveals paradoxical developments. This anthology provides
new knowledge on the inconsistency of the institution of gender.
