Abstract
Specialists of Corsican and Sardinian have claimed that action nouns in -era contain a suffix imported from Italy or Spain. In the present paper I try to show that this cannot be correct and that the the suffix either derives from Latin -aria in a phonologically irregular way or from a substrate language.
