    Abstract

This paper discusses the role of Neapolitan from a linguistic attitudinal perspective in the linguistic mindscape of two groups of Lucanians living in Basilicata, in villages on the border of the Campania region, compared with Lucanian immigrants living in Naples. The paper analyses how Neapolitan is perceived, described and judged, examining whether distance from or contact with the city of Naples influences perception and value judgments about it.
