Abstract

Innovation has been hailed as essential to maintaining competitive advantage (for organizations), growth (for economies) and progress (for society). At the same time, innovation, especially in the context of commercial enterprise, has always been a double-edged sword.Scholars and practitioners have engaged with this issue under different headlines, including but not limited to: inclusive innovation, sustainability-oriented innovation, responsible innovation, social innovation, eco- innovation, and open innovation. The multiplicity of voices, empirical and theoretical approaches and perspectives that exist today are apt to enrich our understanding of innovation, both in terms of creating societal benefit and as a lever for tackling pressing sustainability challenges. the purpose of this panel symposium is to bring together scholars and practitioners in a formal yet interactive and multi-disciplinary setting. While the topic of the symposium is relevant to a wide range of scholars from within the Academy, the symposium specifically focuses on the example of the healthcare sector.
