Abstract

Green and sustainable development has attracted enormous attention in recent years due to climate change and environmental degradation. Although these are problems of global nature, actions have to be taken often at lower spatial levels. The focus here is on industrial and innovation policies at the regional level, but complementary frames are needed at the national and European ones. Effective policies have to take into account that individual regions and countries face different challenges for moving towards green economies. We will explore challenges and potential policy responses for different types of regions.
