Publication: Book/Editorship/ReportResearch report, expert opinion

Abstract

The report studies the relevant research and policy documents regarding ESL that have been published in Austria since 2000. The first part offers a chronological survey of the definitions of early school leaving used in these publications and also examines similar concepts of the semantic field under discussion, such as dropout, early or premature school (training) dropout or, to put it in individual-related terms: young people lacking minimum of certified qualifications, so called unqualified youth, young persons without vocational training, and disadvantaged youth. The second part deals with the most important keywords used in Austrian ESL studies and investigates the research field as such, while part 3 discusses the keywords that most frequently occur in Austrian policy documents after 2000.
