Stems a Different Way - Introducing 'oo' in 'ooRexx' (2019)

Publication: Chapter in book/Conference proceedingContribution to conference proceedings

Abstract

In Rexx stems are often used to represent data structures and collections of data ("stem-arrays") with the same structure. ooRexx being an object-oriented language makes it very easy to explicitly define and implement data structures. In combination with ooRexx arrays it is astonishingly simple to create applications that maintain collection of data in a much more versatile (like sorting!) and "bullet-proof" manner (no unnoticed coding mistakes possible when referring elements of a data structure) than is possible with stems and stem-arrays. Nutshell examples will demonstrate the functionality and also how straight-forward data structures can be defined, implemented and used in ooRexx.
