Zwischen Systemlogik und Beziehungsarbeit: Kultursensible Beratung internationaler Studierender im deutschsprachigen Hochschulraum

This article explores the challenges and success factors of culturally sensitive academic advising for international students at universities in Germany and Austria.
Based on qualitative interviews with 21 academic advisors, the study identifies key issues such as language barriers, orientation in the higher education system, and psychosocial stress. The findings highlight the central role of advisors as cultural mediators and underscore the need for institutional support, intercultural training,
and relational competence. Differences between the two national contexts are discussed with regard to student demographics and advisory structures.
